About Kate Weeks

I am a fully qualified Bowen therapist, who has been in practice for six years. I am a member of the Bowen Therapists European Register, the Federation of Holistic Therapists and registered with the Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council.

I’d like to tell you briefly about why I decided to train as a Bowen therapist and my own personal Bowen experiences.....

My first introduction to Bowen was when my horse, Ollie, was a case study for a friend training in equine Bowen. I was so impressed with the effect the treatment had on him that I asked the therapist to treat my daughter, who at the time was 8 and had been diagnosed with a mild scoliosis (curvature of the spine).  After four Bowen treatments the spine was x-rayed again and was now perfectly straight. I am now sure the scoliosis was caused by imbalance and tightness in the muscular structure that supports the spine. This was simply and effectively addressed by Bowen.

I was also treated for neck and back problems. During my first Bowen treatment I could feel all sorts of releases happening and over the course of three treatments my neck and back pain was addressed.

After more research, I realised that this was the career change I had been looking for. I then began my training, through ECBS - Europes leading training college for Bowen. Since qualifying I have also completed a level three diploma in Anatomy and Physiology, and attend regular training days and workshops which ensures that I remain up to date and accurate with my work. I am, of course, fully insured.

I have built up a busy practice over the last six years which has originated mainly from my case studies while training and personal recommendations.

I keenly promote the use of Bowen being used as a preventative measure and that regular treatments are as important as that dental checkup or visit to the hairdresser!  Our bodies need maintaining through our hectic and often stressful lives and maintenance is more sensible than fixing a problem once it occurs. I have a Bowen treatment myself every six weeks and I no longer suffer from tension headaches and migraines.

If you have stress in your life, this is often carried in the shoulders, neck and upper back – this in turn can lead to headaches and migraines. Bowen relieves the tension in these areas. We can’t always take the stress out of our lives, but we can take action to stop the stress taking its toll on our health.

I am careful to ensure that all my clients are given aftercare advice as this is hugely important for the treatment to be effective. I will emphasise the importance of movement, the drinking of water and advise that clients aim for three treatments a week apart if appropriate.

I am currently involved in setting up a children’s clinic – children respond very quickly to Bowen, and the fact that there is no manipulation or massage, and the therapy can be given through light clothing make it a very suitable treatment for them. It seems like absolute common sense to me to help children’s bodies develop without muscular and skeletal problems. Children who are doing a lot of sport, or who are under exam stress can be prone to tension and muscle tightness which will only compound as they get older, addressing this as it occurs and preventing other problems occurring due to compensation could prevent them suffering from chronic problems in adulthood. Bowen is currently being performed in special children’s clinics around the country and is successfully helping ADHD, hay fever, asthma and sleep problems as well as muscular and skeletal abnormalities.
